Join us for engaging Navy awareness events designed to educate our community about the USS Pittsburgh Amphibious Assault Ship LPD 31. We organize educational gatherings throughout the year to share the remarkable progress of this cutting-edge vessel currently under construction. Our volunteer-driven events create opportunities for citizens to learn about naval operations, ship capabilities, and the importance of supporting our Navy service members who will serve aboard this impressive amphibious assault vessel.
USS Pittsburgh Legacy Series
March 19, 2026 | Fort Pitt Museum
The USS Pittsburgh Commissioning Committee is honored to launch the Legacy Series with our inaugural program on March 19, 2026.
This first gathering will revisit the history of the first Pittsburgh, exploring the origins of a proud naval tradition that now spans five vessels bearing our city’s name. As Pittsburgh prepares to commission LPD-31, we begin by grounding our work in the history that shaped it.
We are privileged to welcome Captain Tardy, NAVSEA PEO Ships, LPD Program Manager, who will provide a construction update on USS Pittsburgh (LPD-31) and share insights into the progress of our future namesake vessel.
In addition, Captain Diechler, the final Commanding Officer of the last USS Pittsburgh, submarine SSN 720, will join us for a fireside conversation reflecting on the enduring relationship between a city and the ship that carries its name across the globe.
Space for this inaugural event is limited. Invitations are being extended to Navy League members and individuals and organizations who have previously expressed interest in supporting the Commissioning Committee’s work. As the Legacy Series grows, we look forward to expanding access and engagement opportunities for the broader community.
